Goodbye

A poem by Lota Dibua

This was where we said goodbye. The garden.

The garden still held the fragrance of your cologne

The evening we first shared a hello.

You willingly gave a penny for my thoughts,

For my quivering lips which sang a dirge.

I got trampled on the very fragile edges of my heart by human,

So I let go.

I let go of humanity.

“Let me show you love,” you said.

And so I anticipated with glee.

Chocolate bars and scented flowers.

Heart shaped cards and listening ears.

Candle lit dinners and nervous chuckles.

“Love is that big man up there”.

Disappointed.

“Love is in His arms left open for you,

Cooing for a sweet embrace”.

Bored still.

“Let Him love you”.

This was when we said goodbye.

I was ready to let the big man love me right.

Ready to pick up my shattered frame.

And allow the broken pieces be

Just the right keys to the music your fingers eagerly played…

Broken pieces which I tried to patch up,

Letting the walls of your palms be the right mold I fit into.

But you gave up

As the sharp edges of my broken pieces prickled your palms sore.

You couldn’t wait for it;

For your words to complete the healing process which it started already.

So you let go.

You let go of me

And my broken pieces becomes one with the wind.

Lost forever.
