Where are the short story, poetry, and fiction writers at? We have some gigs for you.
There are writers specialising in different fields of writing. We have those who do best at academic writing or essays that need thorough research (these same set might find it herculean engaging in creative writing like fiction, poetry, etc.), and vice versa. But then, should we say any genre is greater than the other? No! It’s all writing and requires quite an amount of energy investment to accomplish a pleasing piece. That being said, let us cut to the chase, shall we?
1. SAMSON ABANI POETRY CONTEST

The Samson Abanni foundations call upon members of the public who are poetry enthusiasts and can command words with the tap of their pen to engage in “hair-raising libations of words” on the theme of Invocations.
And, oh, there is a cash prize of $100 to the most creative writer. Also, participants should ensure to follow them on their Facebook page @samsonabanni as winners will be announced on the page on the 1st of January, 2023.

2. WENAIJA LITERARY CONTEST

The WeNaija annual campaign has announced its 2022 literary contest on short stories, poetry, flash fiction, and non-fiction prose themed Righting Our Story. Entries should create a vision of how a healthy Nigeria should be touching on any one of the following:
- Poverty alleviation about the sustainable development goals of no poverty, zero hunger, good health and well-being.
- Health care system strengthening with the sustainable development goals of good health and well-being. It should cover the gap in the Nigerian health sector and how to transform it.
- Reskilling the workforce in relation to the sustainable development goals of quality education, decent work and economic growth.
Eligibility and Rules
- Entries should be original works of entrants and must not have been published before, but long-listed or shortlisted works will be accepted so far it has and will not be published elsewhere.
- One submission per person.
- Contest Is open to Nigerians living in Nigeria between the ages of 15 and 35.
- Poems should be a maximum of 40 lines; flash fiction should be a maximum of 800 words: short stories should be a maximum of 2000 words.
- Format: single line spacing, 12 font size and any font style.
- Should be written in English and submitted in doc, docx format with the inclusion of entrant’s name and work title.

3. UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN FACULTY OF LAW LITERARY AND DEBATING SOCIETY

The Literary and Debating Society of the Faculty of Law, University of Ibadan is calling for entries for its maiden edition of the Student Anthology which is a collection of literary works from Nigerian students across the country. Entries are to be in poetry, short story and non-fiction essay form on the theme of Promoting Political Consciousness Among the Nigerian Masses.
A cash of N60,000 will be allocated to the winner of each category mentioned above.
